Lakota Hosts a Mighty Family Campout
The Mighty Lakota tribe hosted a great family campout with over 60 campers representing the Lakota tribe. Those moms and guides know how to have a good time!

The weekend started off with Wiener Man and Carrot Boy teaching us that it’s not about the start, its about the recovery. Tri-tip, chicken and a gourmet salad hit the spot. It’s wasn’t tube steaks but we made it through!
Sweet Friday was a huge hit with strawberry shortcake on the menu. Tribes came from far and wide to get all jacked up on some sugar right before bed. For those who stayed up a bit later, those hot dogs were a welcome snack and were served with a smile.
Saturday morning kicked off with a coffee run (no electricity South of the Seco border) and some blackened blueberry pancakes. They even rivaled Gil’s famous scrambled pancakes!
As the day got started the princesses enjoyed creating some one-of-a-kind necklaces for the moms. Jeff Lynch won the closest to the pin contest. Although we’re pretty sure he couldn’t hit that shot again to save his life (18 inches from the hole!). Jeff was as surprised as the rest of us. Later in the day he proved that he’s a better golfer than he is a chef; getting beat (as judged by the moms) in the Appetizer Contest by some amateurs from the Mighty Lakota! That’s got to hurt, eh Jeff?
The water balloon catch was good clean fun except for KStew’s post contest wayward launch that landed on Brett’s squaw’s back. Lucky for him, Holly’s a good sport (and Brett’s not too good at retaliation techniques). The warm swimming pool was a highlight after the water balloon catch; funny thing, the warm pool was the one with all the kids in it.

At the nation campfire, emcee Regan led the “Smarter than a Princess” game show. In answering the questions, Chief Brown shocked us all with his Disney trivia knowledge. On the other hand, his med man just looked shell shocked.
The chill in the night air was Bringing on the Heartache, so Def Leopard’s family decided to skip the great outdoors Saturday, drive home and Pour Some Sugar On. Also on the family front, the Lakota said goodbye to the Stew crew. We’re going to miss KStew, “Bay” and Big Bopper. Thanks, Dawn and Cole, for lending them to us this year.

The weekend finished off with a treacherous hike that lead to a beautiful view of the hills and earned the families the coveted yellow bear claw. We hope all the Wildcat families enjoyed Vail Lake as much as Lakota did.
