Marston 2007 went into history as another very successful campout for the Mighty Lakota. The turnout was excellent with 19 dads and 24 Princesses.

The Princesses especially enjoy Marston since there are so much to do, while the dads enjoy Marston since there are so little to do (everything prepared and organized by YMCA staff).

Furthermore, Marston and Raintree Ranch have become very special for the Lakota dads, as this is where we started playing Euchre together last year. Since then we have been playing at every single campout, and almost all dads know the game by now. Saturday we played a Euchre tournament with 18 of 19 dads participating. Only Teflon Frank was absent since he is scratch resistant. The tournament was won by Hunting Eagle, although some participants claimed that to be attributed to strategic picking of partners more so than excellent Euchre skills.

With mixed feelings we also had the opportunity to say thanks and good bye to last years Lakota Chief, Flying Eagle alias The Great Dane alias Mario Coronado and his two Princesses Anna Claire and Evie. The Coronado’s are moving up in the world to what they believe is a better place in Santa Barbara. We will miss the Coronado family very much and hope they will come back and join us at future campouts.

Simon and the rest of the staff at Marston did a fantastic job keeping our Princesses active, entertained and happy. Archery and BB gun shooting were very popular activities although rock climbing topped it all. Several Princesses climbed for first time and many made it all the way to the top for the first time. All dads were very proud of their climbing Princesses. Some dad’s and Princesses were also able to do some fishing, with Blue Wolf catching a really big one. The Lakota dad’s favorite entertainment was at the Archery range.

Entertainment by Simon and the Marston Singers at the Saturday campfire was another memorable event.
