Hoya Hoya!

What a great weekend for the mighty Lakota tribe! After a little traffic on the way up, due to California drivers putting on their chains, we kicked off the weekend with a pizza party in downtown Big Bear. Thanks to Ramon for picking the spot and making reservations.

This being the first overnight for my daughter and I, we didn’t quite know what to expect. The accommodations, food and staff at the Presbytarian Conference Center were great. After watching the movie Brother Bear and enjoying Lakota’s Sweet Friday, it was a little challenging, to put it mildly, getting the Lakota girls to bed the first night. Too much sugar and excitement. Repeat after me Ponies, l-i-g-h-t-s o-u-t!

The few inches of snow that fell on Thursday night before the trip was just enough for the girls to enjoy some sledding Saturday morning on the hill just outside the lodge. After that we all headed to the tubing park where KStew and BStew win the prize for the most runs. After lunch the girls were challenged by the high flying ropes course. It was a little nerve racking watching the girls take on the “leap of faith” and zipline. I was very impressed with the number of fearless girls that completed each of the stations. I know there are a few dads, especially this one, that couldn’t do it.

Saturday night was awesome with bead trading, creative skits, prime rib dinner, pies for dessert and 10 o’clock tacos hosted by the Ponies.

In true Lakota style, both the Nation Chief and Med Man were impressed at the number of Lakota girls and dads that completed their 6 Aims. No other tribe even came close.

Looking forward to the next campout.

Other Fun Stuff03 Jan 2007 12:09 pm
  1. To be clean in body and pure in heart.
  2. To be “Pals Forever” with my dad/daughter.
  3. To love the sacred circle of my family.
  4. To listen while others speak.
  5. To love my neighbor as myself.
  6. To seek and preserve the beauty of the Great Spirit’s work in forest, field, and stream.

To earn your Howling Wolf, learn these aims and recite them to the Nation Chief or Nation Med Man at our next event.
